When we determined that we wanted to really push the BMW R 18 into a new direction, we put our own Nathan Newbury in charge of the build. Nathan has been working in our BMW Motorrad dealership for the better part of 6 years, first as our Parts Manager and now as our Finance & Insurance Manager. Nathan appreciates the unique attributes of BMW Motorcycles but is most passionate about customized Harley-Davidson motorcycles.
We gave Nathan free reign to build the R 18 of his dreams and allowed him to source components from the suppliers he prefers and to collaborate with the craftsmen and artisans that have made their name in the H-D custom bike scene. And we love what he came up with.

In Nathan’s Words
I wanted to combine two uniquely California custom motorcycle styles the ‘club style’ and the ‘vicla’
Club bikes are typically more monotone and purpose built for getting through traffic and riding all day. Often club bikes will feature a high mounted quarter fairing and form follows function with taller suspension, upright and commanding ergonomics, as well as performance enhancing mods like intake and exhaust.
Viclas on the other hand are much more clearly influenced by lowrider and custom car culture. Typically, viclas will be slammed with ornate paint jobs, plenty of chrome adornment, and fenders and handlebars that contribute to the style of the bike more than the riders comfort. Ultimately, I am super proud of our team and all of the craftsmen that were able to balance these two elements of form and function with the already unique cruiser platform from BMW.
